My Stack

Are you like me with a pile of books next to your bed, in the 'middle' of reading ALL of them, picking one out depending on your mood? Or does this make me odd (again!)

Sexual State of the Union, Susie Bright (thanks Sim J)

The Year of Living Dangerously, Christopher Koch

The Blind Watchmaker, Richard Dawkins (thanks Rockstar x)

Sex and the Single Vampire, Katie MacAlister (thanks Kath J)

Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy

The Short second Life of Bree Tanner, Stephanie Meyer (thanks Rockstar x)

Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling, Richard Lyman Bushman

  1. I do that too.

Currently reading Richard Wiseman's "59 Seconds" (awesome so far), R. A. Salvatore's Cleric Quintent, Michael Quinn's "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View" and a fun manual on hypnotic inductions- hoping to crib material from the latter and build it into my teaching patter at dance. ...when are you coming to that, btw? =)

  3. Ooh, some great ideas there for my next stack of books!

A hypnotic dance experience!! that sells it even more :)

Oh man! Fanny I have issews! I am trying to be more haphazard, that stack is actually quite disheveled for me. When I am talking to people I straighten things up, OR once when Rockstar and I were watching a movie I started lining up M&Ms on the couch in between us and arranging them in colour without even really thinking about it. Rockstar tried to make me stop but no dice ;D

  4. I read The Magician's Nephew to my boy a few summers ago, before he was reading well. I would read it aloud and we would sit in the sun. Good times.

My stack is all over the place. Literally.

Is that a new Stephanie Meyer? I'm going to go google it. I'm not a fan. I hated Twilight and wasn't too keen on The Host. Didn't finish it. Although I hear that they're adding the question "Edward or Jacob?" to the temple recommend interview.

Let's talk OCD sometime. I get in trouble for fixing stuff on store shelves.

  5. You have a photo!!! :D

I enjoyed the first Twilight book and movie; the rest of them I have kind of just 'suffered through' it's like a car crash, I don't know why I can't look away! especially the bare chests :P ... I've only made it about 1 chapter into the Bree Tanner book, it's not grabbing me.

Hehe, you could create a MormonGag catoon for that Twilight joke!

Ha! yes of course, shops, I am guilty of that too! and libraries! so hard not to straighten things up there. This however does not make my house tidy, I don't do well with mountains of never-ending mess! I just straighten up where I can :D

Why I Became An Atheist by John Loftus, The Mormon Delusion Vol. 1 by Jim Whitefield. Beautiful Creatures by....and Bloodshot by Cherie Priest. OK, I'm also skimming through Fawn Brodie's No Man Knows My History!

  10. As a stake president I would counsel you against reading anything written by Richard Dawkins. Also Rough Stone Rolling has caused many to question their faith which in my experience is never a good thing.

  11. Oh President 'Our Father' you had me worried/intrigued for a minute. I read my email too hastily and thought that my old Stake Pres. was commenting on my 'Jumping Through Hoops' post where I complained about the church not responding to my exit letter. I though Pres. was going to tell me they'd already excommunicated me or something!

Thank you for your counsel. Do you have any 'good' books you could recommend to me?

  12. Sister M I would counsel you to stick with the scriptures, any content on lds.org and most importantly my faith promoting blog. If there are any other books you have in mind I would be happy to provide priesthood direction on them for you.
